To celebrate the 700th anniversary of the village of Karthaus in Val Senales, we have given art a permanent and visible presence at the Goldene Rose Karthaus. It is not intended as a decorative element, but rather as an expression of our attitude and values.
For us, art is a means of reflection, pause and dialogue. With this in mind, we see the Goldene Rose as a contemporary art hotel in South Tyrol, where art becomes part of the building and the experience.
Our theme this year is 'Trust'. Trust shapes our understanding of hospitality as much as the artistic process itself. It emerges through open exchange, acceptance of different perspectives and conscious creation of space.
Against this backdrop, we invited the artist Alessandro Gatto to interpret the theme with complete creative freedom. His long-standing connection to Karthaus and its history has inspired an artistic piece that evokes emotion and raises questions, rather than providing explanations. To serve as a lasting reminder of the anniversary and our values, a fine art print of the piece is available to purchase directly from Goldene Rose – an expression of trust, culture and hospitality in practice.
Created especially for the anniversary, Alessandro Gatto's work blends harmoniously into the atmosphere of Goldene Rose, while simultaneously representing a new creative chapter for our hotel. It marks the beginning of a conscious shift towards contemporary art and curatorial thinking.
Come and experience the work of Alessandro Gatto at Goldene Rose Karthaus.
Alessandro Gatto’s work is representative of this year's theme, but it is also part of a wider curatorial concept. Along the wooden gallery, guests encounter further works by the artist that address social and philosophical questions and invite quiet reflection.
The central work consists of nine panels which are installed along the wooden gallery on the way to the Karthauser Bad. The panels are arranged in three thematic groups. The pieces are intentionally open to interpretation, encouraging visitors to develop their own thoughts and emotions.
We do not understand the Goldene Rose as an isolated art space, but as part of a wider artistic route through Val Senales. The village of Karthaus has a long-standing artistic tradition, including biennial exhibitions in the cloister of the Charterhouse and earlier internationally recognised exhibitions supported by the Schnals cultural association.
At the end of the valley is another striking point of reference: the work 'Our Glacial Perspectives' by Olafur Eliasson, which powerfully highlights the connection between nature, time, and art. The installation draws attention to the transience of glaciers and invites us to reflect on our relationship with the landscape, our responsibilities, and the future.
Alongside the artistic pieces in Karthaus, this creates a narrative arc that brings Val Senales to life as a place of contemporary reflection. We warmly invite you to visit the Glacial Perspectives artwork.
